The Product

A celtec slant board helps users with focus and learning, as well as accessible play!

A celtec activity slant board puts any toy, paper, or device at a slant for easier access to the user. Celtec is a black, lightweight yet sturdy material that makes transport easy and limits distractions in a user’s visual field. People with cortical visual impairment may use this board to help them focus on just the objects on the board.

We worked with Tim, an engineer at the Perkins School for the Blind, to bend celtec into a slant board. I got to try out the heat rods, which release the celtec into a malleable form to be bent and cooled into place. I was surprised that the heat rods were exposed for anyone to accidentally touch!

We didn’t have much time for this project, so I’d love to measure out the correct angles for a slant board, and learn more about its use cases in the future.

The Process

Now, I can add heat rods to my toolbox, and celtec into my mental library of materials. Celtec is wonderful for its sturdy but extremely lightweight nature; I will keep it in mind for future projects.
